mific: (Ronon Dex)
[personal profile] mific posting in [community profile] fancake
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters/Pairings: Ronon Dex/John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Dave Sheppard
Rating: Teen, Gen
Length: 3158 (Homework is 963)
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: Rheanna on AO3, busaikko on AO3, susan_voight on AO3
Themes: Siblings, Friendship, Going home, Established relationship

Summaries:
Ronon starts his e-mail correspondence with Sheppard's brother more or less by mistake.

For some reason, after his father's funeral Dave Sheppard keeps getting e-mail from Ronon Dex.

Reccer's Notes: This is a remix of Homework by busaikko, and they can be read in any order - this is basically a rec for both fics, Fieldwork being from Ronon's POV, and Homework, which is just as good, from Dave's POV. Ronon's in a relationship with John and as part of learning English he starts emailing John's estranged brother, Dave. Rodney then gets involved as Ronon goes to him for help. The characterisations of Ronon, John, and Rodney here are spot on, and it's both funny and moving - a wonderful set of stories.

Susan_voight podficced both stories, both separately and collated.

Signups are now open! Go here to signup. Guidelines are below.

Requests

You will sign up with 1-10 requests, with 1-10 relationships per request. You may repeat fandoms with different relationships. You may also select "any" for relationships, indicating that you are open to receiving a fanwork for any of the nominated relationships for that fandom.

The minimum number of fandoms is one, but if you request fewer than three unique fandoms, you're not guaranteed a gift, and we won't delay reveals for you. Three sub-fandoms within the same larger fandom (e.g., Tortall) are considered unique fandoms in this context.

If you go to pinch hits with fewer than three fandoms and your pinch hit lingers for more than a week (or more than 24 hours past the general assignments due date), you may contact the mods to add more fandoms.

You may request either fic, art, or both.

If you have a letter at an external site (Dreamwidth, Tumblr, Google Docs, etc)., provide a link to it in the relevant box. Please ensure that your letter is complete by the time signups close.

If you have any Do Not Wants (DNWs) that you wish your creator to respect, they must be in the Optional Details box of your signup. DNWs that are only contained in an outside letter cannot be enforced by the mods.

The mod encourage all participants to use clear, specific, and reasonable DNWs for this exchange. DNWs for specific characters in "any" ships will not be enforced. If you have questions about the best way to phrase your DNWs, please contact sufficiently.advanced.ex@gmail.com for assistance.

Offers

You will sign up with 1-10 offers, with 1-10 relationships per offer. You may repeat fandoms with different relationships. You may also select "any" for relationships, indicating that you are open to creating a fanwork for any of the nominated relationships for that fandom.

If you offer a specific "any" ship, such as "Any Dragon & Their Captain", you only need to be able to write one ship that fits the criteria.

You may offer either fic, art, or both.

You may also use one of your offer slots for "bucket" offers. Put one fandom tag in the fandom box; tick "Any" for relationships; then put all the other fandom tags in the optional details box, separated by commas. This can only be done with one of your offer slots, and means you are offering "Any" relationships in all of these fandoms. Remember that the relationships field also includes Solo: Character nominations; and general or specific worldbuilding tags.

Fandoms entered into the optional tags field will not auto-complete, but spelling and spaces matter. The easiest way to fill in your bucket list is to use the "Fandom:" box; when it autocompletes, you can copy and paste fandoms from there one by one into the Optional Tags line until you are done, and then leave the last fandom in the Fandom box. If you are offering lots of fandoms, you can make a comma-separated list in a text file by copying and pasting from the tagset, then pasting it in. This method ensures you do not lose your list if you enter one of the tags incorrectly, and makes it easier to edit if you change your mind.

Matching

Matching works on an OR basis. Your request will be matched to a creator based on just one fandom/relationship/medium combination.

If you do not have a potential recipient, you will be contacted and asked to edit your sign up. If you do not wish to do that, or if you do not respond within 24 hours, your sign-up will be deleted.

(Challenge Idea from [community profile] seasons_of_fandom.)

We had this Challenge over at [community profile] seasons_of_fandom. But since I missed it I thought we could have this here too. :D

So, for this Challenge you may focus on all the Birthdays that you took part of. :o) If you can't think of any of your Birthdays you may also go with Birthdays of family and/or friends. :o) It only matters that that Birthday was special for you in any sort of way. :o)

For the icons below I went with my birthday last year: I went to Cologne to see From the World of John Wick: Ballerina in cinema. After getting myself something to drink I came across someone that wore a Stitch-suit. :D I went to my favorite place to eat and I got myself a Burger. :D

James White "Bad Thoughts: A Guide to Clear Thinking" (Corvo Books)

A good, solid look at some of the most common logical mistakes. There were one or two amusing moments when the author actually committed a fallacy he'd just argued against, and there were a few places where he allowed his political preferences to color his arguments, but for the most part, it is a badly needed corrective to some of the most egregious mistakes being made in modern discourse.

This should be required reading for everyone, especially the devoted MAGA and Brexit generation who don't seem to have even a modicum of critical thinking skills and would prefer to have someone else tell them what to think.

This book has both a humorous and very pointed, yet concise way of walking the user through the various logic breakdowns and falacies that are encountered in the current spin filled 'news' of the day.
